In a remarkable development in the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, Ukrainian military intelligence has reported that a Russian Su-30 fighter jet was successfully shot down using a naval drone. This incident occurred near the Black Sea port of Novorossiisk on Saturday and is being hailed as the first instance of such a strike in the world. The news became public after a video showcasing the strike was released, confirming the successful operation.

The head of Ukraine’s military intelligence elaborated on the event during an interview with The War Zone, revealing that not just one, but two Russian jets were downed during the operation. This revelation underscores the growing capabilities of Ukraine’s drone warfare, particularly in maritime environments, and highlights a significant tactical shift in the conflict.

Shortly after this announcement, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky provided further confirmation, stating that another Russian aircraft had been destroyed within a mere 24 hours following the first strike. This additional destruction reportedly took place during an assault on an airfield in the Crimea region, which has been under Russian control since 2014.

In a separate but equally concerning development, a mass drone attack by Russian forces on Kyiv resulted in injuries to 11 individuals, including two children. Local officials reported that the overnight assault caused extensive damage, setting numerous homes and vehicles ablaze throughout the city. The air raid sirens echoed across the capital and eastern Ukraine for nearly an hour, signaling imminent danger as explosions rocked several areas.

Ukraine’s air force reported a commendable defensive effort, stating that their air defense units managed to intercept and shoot down 69 of the 165 drones launched by Russia during this offensive. Moreover, an additional 80 drones were lost, indicating significant aerial confrontations over the skies of Kyiv.

This wave of aggression from Moscow comes on the heels of President Zelensky's announcement that Ukraine is prepared to enter into a full ceasefire for a duration of 30 days, starting today. The President has utilized social media platforms to advocate for a “complete silence” in hostilities, expressing hope that this would allow both nations to engage in discussions aimed at establishing a roadmap for peace.
