Overnight airstrikes conducted by Israeli forces on Saturday, May 10, 2025, resulted in the tragic deaths of at least 23 Palestinians in Gaza, according to health officials. Among the deceased were three children and their parents, whose makeshift tent in Gaza City was tragically bombed, highlighting the devastating impact of the ongoing conflict on civilian lives.

The bombardment has escalated significantly as international concerns grow regarding Israel's intentions to assert control over the distribution of humanitarian aid within Gaza. This comes as Israel's blockade of the territory, which is home to more than 2 million residents, enters its third month, leading to a critical humanitarian crisis.

Numerous organizations, including the United Nations and various humanitarian groups, have voiced strong opposition to Israel's proposed aid distribution plan, which involves a coalition of American security contractors, former military officers, and humanitarian officials operating under the banner of the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation. This plan has sparked a heated debate, raising questions about the complexities of aid delivery amidst ongoing hostilities.

Among the heartbreaking reports from the region is the recovery of the bodies of a family of five whose tent was struck in Gaza City’s Sabra district, as confirmed by Gaza's Health Ministry. This incident is just one among many that illustrate the devastating toll of the conflict.

Additionally, an Israeli airstrike late Friday targeted a warehouse belonging to UNRWA, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, located in the northern area of Jabaliya. This attack resulted in the deaths of four individuals, as reported by officials at the Indonesian Hospital, where the bodies were taken for identification. AP footage captured the scene of fires raging amidst the wreckage of the building, which had already been subjected to multiple raids during prior Israeli ground offensives against Hamas.

On the military front, the Israeli military reported that nine soldiers sustained light injuries on Friday night due to an explosive device while conducting operations in Gaza City's Shijaiyah neighborhood. The injured soldiers were promptly evacuated to a hospital in Israel for treatment.

The current round of bombardments resumed on March 18, breaking a two-month ceasefire with Hamas, which had marked a brief period of reduced violence. Since then, Israeli ground troops have taken control of more than half of Gaza, conducting extensive raids and searches particularly in the northern regions and the southernmost city of Rafah. The infrastructure in these areas has suffered significant damage due to prolonged Israeli military operations.

Under the ongoing blockade enforced by Israel, the remaining charity kitchens serve as the primary source of food for many in Gaza. However, these kitchens are beginning to shut down due to dwindling supplies, causing further alarm among aid groups who anticipate more closures in the upcoming days. Israel justifies the blockade as a measure to pressure Hamas into releasing hostages and disarming, yet human rights organizations have condemned it as a “starvation tactic” that could amount to war crimes.

Israel has accused Hamas and other militant groups of diverting aid meant for the civilian population, although it has not provided substantial evidence to support these claims. The United Nations has countered that it closely monitors the distribution of aid and has found no significant evidence of diversion.

The 19-month-long conflict in Gaza has escalated into one of the most catastrophic confrontations ever recorded between Israel and Hamas, resulting in more than 52,800 fatalities—over half of whom are women and children—alongside more than 119,000 injuries, according to the Health Ministry's reports. Notably, the ministry does not distinguish between civilian casualties and those of combatants. Israel claims to have eliminated thousands of militants, although it has not documented this assertion with evidence.

Israel's objective to dismantle Hamas intensified following the October 7, 2023, attack, during which militants killed approximately 1,200 individuals, primarily civilians, and abducted over 250 others. Current estimates indicate that Hamas continues to hold around 59 hostages, with roughly a third believed to be alive.

In a distressing development, Hamas released a video on Saturday featuring hostages Elkana Bohbot and Yosef-Haim Ohana, who appeared to be under duress during the recording. These individuals were taken during the October 7 attack from a music festival where tragic violence claimed the lives of over 300 attendees. This marks the second time in a month and a half that Hamas has released footage of Bohbot.

On Saturday evening, protesters gathered once again in Tel Aviv, demanding a ceasefire that would facilitate the safe return of all hostages. Michel Illouz, the father of hostage Guy Illouz, addressed the crowd, expressing grave concerns about the Israeli government's impending military operations that could jeopardize the lives of the hostages, stating, “Can you grasp this? The Israeli government is about to embark on a military operation that could and will endanger the lives of the hostages.”
