Imagine your iPhone speaking to you with an intelligence that feels almost human! That’s the future Apple is crafting with its internal app, Veritas, designed to revolutionize Siri as we know it.

According to Bloomberg, sources close to the matter reveal that Apple Inc. is developing a ChatGPT-style iPhone application to enhance its voice assistant, Siri, with a major overhaul slated for next year. Internally dubbed Veritas—a name that translates to ‘truth’ in Latin—this app will empower Apple employees to rigorously test and refine AI-driven features for Siri.

So, what exactly can Veritas do? This innovative app is built to streamline tasks like searching through personal data such as emails and music, and can even execute in-app actions like photo editing. While it's currently confined to internal testing, its capabilities mark a significant leap in Apple’s quest to revamp its voice assistant.

Veritas is not just your average testing tool; it mimics popular chatbot interfaces, allowing for multiple ongoing conversations. It even saves chat histories and supports in-depth interactions. The groundwork for Veritas is laid on a new system called Linwood, which integrates Apple’s proprietary large language models along with technology from third-party AI providers.

As for Siri's anticipated launch, the update is now on track for March after previous delays that plagued the project with a staggering failure rate of one-third for its features. If successful, this rollout could solidify Apple’s foothold in the fiercely competitive AI landscape, especially as rivals like Google and Samsung ramp up their own capabilities.

Interestingly, Apple kept its advancements under wraps during the recent unveiling of the iPhone 17, possibly as part of a strategic approach to maximize the impact of the Siri upgrade.

Apple is also exploring partnerships with key AI developers. Following discussions with OpenAI and Anthropic, talks with Google are ongoing regarding a customized version of the Gemini AI platform. Internally, the company is restructuring its AI strategy, following the departures of key leaders, including AI chief John Giannandrea, and others overseeing Siri.

But Siri isn't the only focus. Apple is said to be enhancing its other devices, including the HomePod and Apple TV, with advanced AI capabilities. CEO Tim Cook has referred to AI as 'the biggest transformation in decades,' emphasizing Apple’s need to lead in this field.

With the Veritas app serving as a testing platform, Apple is poised to explore how AI can enrich user interactions and device navigation, paving the way for a more intuitive Siri experience.
